For a personality to be eligible, the celebrity must be a reasonably regular paid or employed presenter, panellist, actor, performer or reporter. FOr the original Australian Hottest list, the person needs to be on a television show produced in Australia. The celebrity must also be an Australian resident. However, programs don't have to be broadcast nationally. Celebrities who appear on regional programs are also eligible, and don't forget about the celebrities on Pay TV.
Celebrities who are not eligible are contestants of game shows (that includes reality programs such as Big Brother, Australia Idol etc.), Australian actors who star on internationally produced television shows, Australian actors in movies (eg. Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe) and International actors who appear on Australian produced shows. However, if they are international citizens but have taken up residency in Australia and meet all the other criteria they are eligible to be voted for.
Some discretion will be used by Pisces All Media from time to time. Shows that often have a rotating panel of presenters will be considered on a case by case basis. For example, players who join the panel on the Footy Shows are generally not eligible however there may be exceptions. For all other Hottest on TV lists not restricted to the Australian television industry, the rules are much looser but equivalent. The person must appear professionally in their genre or division at least "regularly" (3 or more times a year) or must be approved as a DEBUT celebrity - someone who is included purely because of their HEAT!
If a program is not on air at a particular time because it is out of season, the celebrities on that program will still be eligible, unless that program is off the air because it has been confirmed that it has been axed, or it has been confirmed that a particular celebrity will not be returning in the new season of that program.
Starting in the January sweep and for all months from then on, all monthly winners will have their celebrity biography updated with an entry such as "Voted Hottest on TV December 2006" each time they win.
Also, new categories of celebrities that we see on free to air, pay or web TV will be added.
Celebrities will be added who are:
GOLDEN AGE
- they helped define TV in years past and although they have now passed on their icon status and the immortality of the video age means we keep them in the list. Example: Graham Kennedy.
TOON
Cartoon, animated and video game characters. who are human(oid) in appearance and who have a fan base based on their hotness... Example: Tomb Raider.
NEWSMAKERS
Not necessarily small screen stars, these people are on our televisions or talked about there all the time... So they need to be listed! Example: Paris Hilton.
INTERNATIONAL
They visit our shores or their show or phenomenon affects our local TV so they need to be listed. Example: MATTHEW FOX of LOST.
DEBUTANTE
These are breakout celebrities and maybe they will go the distance and maybe not, but we want to give them a chance. Example: Brodie Young.
New listings will reflect these titles in their descriptions where appropriate. Other new listings that fit the old criteria will just be listed as normal!
